Printing Web Pages at HealthyMind.com
A surprising number of people have come into my office with 30 to 40 pages in their hands that they have printed from this site. Unfortunately, the increased sophistication of web pages these days has made printing them more and more complicated. This site uses special printing "style sheets" so that the pages will print well with few graphics and a minimum of wasted space. That should save you both ink and paper.
Some of the pages are offered in Adobe Acrobat format. These are the same handouts I use in my practice and do not have any graphics at all. They are readily useable as recovery tools. (If you need the free Adobe Acrobat reader you can find it
here.)
However, if you're still having trouble printing, try the following:
- Under the "File" menu on your browser, click "Page Setup." Make sure that your print margins are no larger than .75 inches (the Internet Explorer default.) In most cases this will prevent the right side of the page from being clipped off.
- Browsers tend to ignore actual lines of text when printing, often splitting them between pages so that the top half of a line of print will be on one page with the rest of it following on the next. As far as I know there is no way to prevent this. Sorry! Using the Adobe Acrobat pages when possible will resolve that problem, though there will be no color or graphics.
- Unfortunately, Netscape has some bugs in it that make printing pages difficult, one of which prevents it from printing more than the 1st printed page for any web page in certain circumstances. There is supposedly a "work-around" for this, but I couldn't get it to work. As long as these bugs exist, you will need to use Internet Explorer to print these pages correctly.
Enjoy!
